UNIFIED FINALS /CAR AUDIO CHAMPIONSHIP HELPING TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR CANCER RESEARCH
In an effort to help raise awareness of cancer research and early detection, the four car audio competition organizations (dB Drag, IASCA, USACi, MECA) have donated a booth at the2013 Car Audio Championship in Huntsville, Alabama this October, to showcase a cancer victim’s car and sound system.
Ryan Bartlett was an avid lover of car audio and performance cars and was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer in October of 2010, while he was working on the BP oil spill in the gulf. Sadly, Ryan succumbed to the disease in January of 2012. Before Ryan passed, three of his co-workers got together to give Ryan his dream car, a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro, which was then customized and included a high end car audio system.
“Ryan’s life was stolen by cancer” said Tom Bartlett, Ryan’s father “The way he fought the disease was nothing short of inspirational; he never gave up fighting or said he wanted to quit. Ryan’s medical staff and specialists continually commented on how tough he was; his passing shook them very deeply. He fought until the very day it took him from our family. Even though he didn’t win his battle, the car and sound system provided him with what modern medicine couldn’t; an escape from the pain and hardships he faced along the way. Now, we use his dream car to help raise awareness of his battle and the battle we still face to beat cancer. “
The Camaro’s sound system was made possible by the generosity of many companies, including Audio Xperts of Vacaville, California, who donated the system build and customization of the vehicle. Support came from many car audio manufacturers as well.
“It was an honor to build the car for Ryan” said Vince Miranda, owner of Audio Xperts “Special thanks to great mobile electronics companies like Arc Audio, Hybrid Audio Technologies, JBL, JVC, Viper and Stinger for their support.”
Ryan’s car will be on display at the Unified Car Audio Championship event in Huntsville, Alabama on October 19th and 20th, 2013. Throughout the weekend, raffle tickets will be sold to attendees of the event (spectators, competitors, etc.) with all proceeds from the raffle going to the LIVESTRONG Foundation towards cancer research. All staff at the booth are volunteers from the LIVESTRONG Foundation and they are also donating gift bags to the raffle. Prizes are all donated by mobile electronics manufacturers and dealers.
“I met Ryan’s dad Tom at the IASCA West Coast SQ finals in 2012” said Moe Sabourin, Director of Operations for IASCA Worldwide “His dedication to his son’s passion is second to none; he’s brought Ryan’s car to dozens of car shows across the country, telling Ryan’s story and helping others understand the importance of cancer research and early detection. IASCA has made Ryan an honorary lifetime member in honor of his passion for car audio. The Unified Finals Car Audio Championship is proud to support Ryan’s cause and hopes that other mobile electronics industry members will do the same.”
“MECA appreciates Ryan’s dad, Tom, and family, and Team Audio Xperts who supported Ryan’s love of car audio and music.” stated Steve Stern, President of MECA ” They honor our club when they bring Ryan’s vehicle to our events to compete in our SQL and SPL contests. Ryan’s 2013 SQL Modified State Champion title is a great testament to the hard work that went into the building and tuning of Ryan’s high performance audio system. Ryan’s dedication and passion for our sport is displayed each time someone looks at, and listens to his sonic work of art. Having this vehicle from California at our 2013 World Finals Soundfest is an honor for our club, and sport, as we honor and remember Ryan.“
The Unified Finals car Audio Championship takes place on October 19th and 20th at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
